Postcard

This morning as i was walking to work in the heavy rain and walking past the swollen Avon River that passes through the city I realised just how beautiful it is even in mid winter. The beautiful Southern Alps set a beautiful backdrop even though i couldnt really see them today with the rain clouds. We are known as the garden city because of our parks and trees that are everywhere. We are also known for our lack of tall skyscraper buildings.

Greetings from New Zealand. My home!

Thinking blogger

Today i would like to say thankyou to Shaney at www.prideplace.blogspot.com for including me in his thinking blogger list. Your blog is great Shaney. Keep it up.

So as part of the thinking blogger i would like to say why i have started blogging and nominate 5 bloggers who i think are extremely interesting a thinking people.

I started blogging almost a year ago. I wanted to see how other (gay) people lived their lives and to find out that i was not so different afterall. It kind of reinforced my concept that gay people live normal lives just like everybody else. My blog also allows me to be thoughtful, to add humour to life and to allow other people to take a peak into my everyday life.

The 5 bloggers who i would like to nominate as my top 5 thinking bloggers are:

1. Donnie, You are awesome mate. You seem to be a great all round person. You look after your self and your body. You enjoy your job and you are very very close to your family. It's a treat to see and you definitely have your priorities right. Believe it or not i have learnt a lot from you.

2. RIC in Portugal, Ola meu amigo Ric, You are a person who i think is extremely intelligent. For a start you speak all those languages that i am so envious of. Even when i comment on your page in French or Spanish or English or of course Portuguese, you answer me back appropriately. Im very impressed. Your posts always ooze knowledge especially of Europe. With Europeans such as yourself and your views i reckon Europe has a great united future. You're also a hugely friendly guy.

3. Graham over at Rambling and Gramblings, Your posts are always great and you give a great combination of reports about hotties and your life in general. You have a busy schedule studying and working and you manage to blog and you're still only 19. In my opinion, you're going to have a great life. You're a thinker and a doer.

4. Brechi, Brechi i just love you mate. Your antics in New York City are awesome. It's great to read all about your life and your meetups with other fellow bloggers in New York. You also post great photos and you're a thinker. Keep it up Brechi.

5. Tim, Tim in New York, You're an awesome guy. Your posts are always thoughtful and you raise interesting questions and thoughts. Plus it was great meeting you last year in NYC.

These are just 5 of my top thinkers. I would like to name more but i can only according to the rules name 5.

A day at work

Today has been one of those days at work where you cannot do ANYTHING right! The boss is in a bad mood and whenever she walks into the office you miraculously have the only three coffees in your hand that you have just had the opportunity to slurp down. I have been working flat out and with the only spare two minutes i had in my work schedule i hurried to make a coffee and took a sip and the boss walks in and gives me a disapproving look. This happened three times today. She now thinks im a lazy employee!

Other things have gone wrong today including getting work done too early.....yes i mean early. Most people get reprimanded for getting work done late.......not me....being reprimanded for work completed too early!
It's a crazy world i tell you.

Looking on the good side, tomorrow can only be better........cant it?!

This week i am going to dedicate my posts to some ordinary good looking people from around the world. I guess i kind of started off yesterday with our first representative from Spain. A few people agreed with my choice of Enrique. His looks and charms stirs our feelings. At the end of the week, our good looking guys will be voted on to see who is the ultimate hottie.

HOTTIE 2: New Zealand's Daniel Carter

Todays hot guy is going to represent New Zealand. He is our very own 'All Black' rugby player Daniel Carter. He has recently opened his own clothing store here in New Zealand and he has been recruited as a model for the Jockey underwear brand. That smile of his could melt ice! Look, stare and admire. The beauty is I can go into his shop which is just 3 blocks away and take a look at him and talk to him in person.

USA

Today folks it's 4th July. Many Americans are celebrating their holiday so in celebration, this post is dedicated to them. Whatever everyone decides to do, have a great day.

Of course, no holiday is celebrated here today and life goes on as usual. I suppose i did celebrate in one way because i bought a hamburger from McDonalds!

I've had a quiet day today. I had a walk down to the mall to get one or two groceries and then came back home again. I work overnight tonight so i took the chance to have a fairly quiet day. Yesterday i went for a long walk feeling like a bit of exercise. The sun was shining so i thought i would make the most of it. I got about 40 minutes into my walk when the clouds opened and it started hosing it down. I always make a habit of checking the sky for clouds before i leave home on my walk and i swear the sky was clear and the birds singing....anyway to cut the story short i arrived home looking like a drowned rat!

ok, im off to work AND im tired before i start, man it's going to be a long night.

Kiwisaver

After weeks of TV, newspaper and billboard advertising by the government, it here! Kiwisaver the new voluntary (kind of) retirement saving scheme supposedly invented to make us wealthy kiwis when we are older has now come into effect today.

In 1997, New Zealanders overwhelmingly rejected in a referendum to be subjected to compulsory superannuation deductions from their wages.

Now in 2007, the government in order to combat or dreadful savings rates have introduced a voluntary one.

It works a bit like this:

Everyone who starts a new job from today will automatically be enrolled into Kiwisaver where either 4% or 8% of their wages will be kept in a retirement fund. If you do not want to be with Kiwisaver then you have up to 8 weeks to apply to withdraw but you must at least wait 2 weeks.

If you are still in your current job, then you just ask your employer to be part of kiwisaver. Otherwise you are NOT enrolled until you start a new job.

Kiwisavers features include:

A $1,000 kick-start contribution from the government when Kiwisaver members join a kiwisaver scheme for the first time.

A tax credit paid to a members kiwisaver account matching a members contributions up to $20 a week.

A $40 annual government contribution towards scheme fees.

In addition to the above:

From 1st April 2008 Employer contributions will be phased in, starting at 1% of an employees gross salary or wage increasing by 1% per year to 4% by April 2011.

It sounds an interesting scheme and much debate has taken place. I think over time though successive governments will meddle with it to their political advantage. I reckon that the employer contribution part will be scrapped if the right wing National Party get power in next years election with them being the party of big business.

So all the balloons have been released, champagne opened and partying done as D-Day for Kiwisaver has arrived. Im sure it's going to be all over the news today.....oh and if you see any balloons with Kiwisaver written on them reaching North America or Europe then send them back...their ours lol.
