Labour Weekend

Well guys it's Labour Weekend here in New Zealand! Now im just not sure what to do to entertain myself. I could go shopping, weekend away, study, walk, entertain etc but i just dont feel motivated. Can anyone suggest anything??

The weather outside is great but i think it's turning for the worse. Labour weekend here is usually great weather as i remember going camping for the last 3 years and enjoying the weather so much. This year we are saving for a trip to New York in November so the drive to the camping ground with petrol prices so high is outo f the question this year.

Ok guys can I ask you a question. What do you recommend that we do in New York apart from Central Park, statue of Liberty and Empire State? Also what are the petrol prices in the USA at the moment?

I look forward to your comments.

I love New York. I would try and catch a Broadway play if that is your thing. You can check playbill.com to see what is currently playing. I absolutely LOVED the Drowsy Chaperone! I also thought that Madame Tussauds wax museum was a hoot! That is also around the Broadway area. You should have a blast!

I live about 2 hrs west of NYC (unfortunately cannot host due to marriage). Right now petrol (gasoline) [regular] is running around $2.09 USD / 1 US gal. (roughly $0.55 USD / liter).

If you have time, I'll second the notion on a broadway play. There is a place in Times Square (42nd/Broadway) that sells "two-fers". You can get two tickets for the price of one. They are the unsold tickets for a show sold on the day of the show. So the gotcha is that you only have a choice of shows for which there are unsold tickets (usually a pretty good choice - the list is posted) and you wait in line (queue) a bit. If you go there for tickets, just have a second choice ready in case your first choice is sold by the time you get there. I saw "Cats" this way when I was in the city for a software users group meeting.

I would also recommend a trip to the Village (Greenwich Village). Perhaps Little Italy and Chinatown.

If you are into history, perhaps on the trip to the Statue of Liberty, you might stop at Ellis Island (the immigration point for many years). The UN building may also be interesting for you.

If you are into sports (as in ice hockey) you might check to see if the Rangers or the Islanders are playing in town. Or just check out Madison Square Garden.

There's a couple of ideas for you.

Go see some shows. And Doug is right -- The Drowsy Chaperone is BRILLIANT. I can also highly recommend Avenue Q. But those are the only 2 I've seen.

Look for the TKTS counter. You can get same day tickets at a discount -- but you need to pay cash there. Just an FYI.
